Education, training and employment for care leavers

Our Universal Offer (for all CIC and CL)

You will be introduced to your Education and Employment Adviser during Year 11, this will be via a home visit with your social worker/care staff or through attendance at your Year 11 PEP (Personal Education Plan) meeting. Your Advisor will work directly with you until the end of the academic year in which you turn 19, supporting you with education, training and employment choices through impartial careers advice.

Your Advisor is part of the Council’s Warrington LIFE careers team based at Time Square. We can offer face to face appointments in a variety of locations including Time Square, Youth and Community Centres, Libraries, Cafes and Home visits – whichever is more convenient for you. We can also offer online/remote meetings if you would prefer.

If you decide that you would like to enroll at college we can support you with completing your application forms and attending college interviews. We will guide you when deciding about which course to study as well as which college will be right for you. We will ensure you have the right equipment/kit, have registered for a college bursary and have obtained the correct travel pass. If you have an EHCP plan we will ensure you have the right support in place to help you achieve.

Training Providers

Did you know that you can achieve Maths and English, as well as vocational subjects without going to a large college? In Warrington we have a number of smaller training providers where you can achieve further qualifications. Classes tend to be small and courses can be personalized to suit your skills/interests.

We have access to the most up to date opportunities and we will let you know what’s on offer in the local area on a regular basis, this could be via email, text or even a phone call.  We can help you with online applications and to prepare you for future interviews

Full time/Part time employment

We will support you to complete CV’s, keep them up to date and ensure they are relevant for each vacancy you apply for. We will support you with online job searches, completion of job application forms and guide you with interview techniques.

Our Unique Offer (if you would like additional support)

Supported Employment (Journey First)

Journey First is an intensive 1-2-1 supported employment project, where Job Coaches work with unemployed people to help them identify their skills and achieve their personal goals in education, employment and/or training.

Developing Independent Skills/Employability Course

We run a short project for a small group of care experienced young people to help prepare them for independent living and to develop their employability skills. This is a nurturing, bespoke course with topics based on our participants’ personal interests, such as managing a budget, understanding benefits, managing a tenancy, job search and application forms, CV’s. We also include activities such as days out (group choice), songwriting, makeup and beauty as well as opportunities for work experience within council departments.

Work Experience

We offer summer work experience placements for Year 10 and 11 students. You will receive a letter in the post asking which work sectors you are interested in and we will try and find a placement closely linked to the area you have specified.
