Celebrating over 40 years of youth work
Celebrating over 40 years of youth work!
Warrington Youth Service has been going strong for over 40 years.
Our flagship building, Orford Youth Base, first opened in 1971 and its staff are still offering guidance and support to young people across the town.
The building itself has changed over time and was even burnt down twice – once in 1988 and again in 2002. Once a youth centre with its own hairdressing salon for training and indoor football pitch, Orford Youth Base now offers private clinic spaces for one-to-one support and open spaces for a range of group activities such as cooking, crafts and music, as well as having its own all weather outdoor sports pitch.
Unsurprisingly, youth work has also changed in over four decades. Youth work has become more focused and aimed at supporting young people to build the skills for their adult life. Today, through direct support and group work, Warrington Youth Service supports young people to develop their confidence and social skills. All of our buildings and groups offer young people a safe place to be themselves and to make friends. Here’s to another 40 years!
