Volunteer as a Mentor for Warrington Youth Club

The Mentoring Programme at Warrington Youth Club provides support for vulnerable and at risk children and young people aged between 7 and 15 years old. It increases confidence, self-esteem, and supports the child or young person to make positive choices through 1:1support, befriending and fun activities. With the backing of The Big Lottery Fund, over the next 3 years 150 children and young people from across Warrington will benefit from this service.  Each child or young person who takes part in the programme will receive weekly 1:1mentored support for 12 months and can also take advantage of monthly group activities all free of charge.

The Mentoring Programme is aimed at children and young people from across Warrington who have little or no role models in their life. They may have been referred from organisations such as Children's Social Care, Family Outreach Team, Young Carers or from their own School or even their Parents. Reasons behind referrals vary and include problems at home; a change in behaviour in the classroom; and lack of confidence, self-esteem or motivation. There is no one size fits all approach to the mentoring a child or young person receives and an individual action plan is created before support commences. This action plan includes the young person's interests, hobbies and aspirations, giving the Mentor a direction for support.

The Mentor will become a role model, inspiring the young person to achieve and support them to make positive choices through fun activities.  Children and young people who take part in the programme will be paired with a Mentor who has similar interests and hobbies so the young person gets the most out of the programme and has an instant connection with their Mentor. For example, a young person who has an interest in music will be matched with a Mentor who plays an instrument.  Another young person who is interested in reading will be matched with a Mentor who can introduce them to the library.
